Six cans for a fiver and a bale of briquettes And the remnants of spag bol adhere to my vest The tape player's broke but the radio's fine And the winter is bet for a short space of time And I wish I was stoned, I wish I was stoned, I wish I was stoned today Calf nuts are nutritious but it's no way to live There are jobs in McDonald's but FUCK THAT Homebrew and rollies and scratchcards and cheese The ratepayer's cheque doesn't stretch to the weed But I wish I was stoned, I wish I was stoned, I wish I was stoned today Maybe I lack something, lack something green Maybe I lack something red But if it's something I lack, you can lack it right back Cos we're all green, we're all red, we all have got something to lose Back home in the bedsit our hero retires And sleep comes on quickly and the fire quickly dies And out in the world where the scary things are Failure and hope sleep in each others arms And I wish I was stoned, I wish I was stoned, I wish I was stoned today.

about

"I wish I was stoned" was born in the mid 90s, when it was called "The Waltz of the Frumious Bandersnatch" and contained an extended instrumental jam with everyone playing in different time signatures. In a rare moment of musical sensibleness, we resurrected it in a shorter form with rewritten lyrics, and got a load our friends to meet us in the Library Bar in Dublin and sing along while we recorded it live with the bar's piano, an acoustic guitar, and a drumkit made out of kitchen equipment. What larks!

Around the same time I (Cormac) had managed to weasel some cheap studio time from our friend Greg French who was working in Westland Studios. They had a lovely Baldwin grand piano and I recorded a couple of tunes I had knocking around in my head, and they ended up stuck on the CD too.
